Ottawa BlackJacks Re-Sign Canadian Guard Tyrrel Tate

The Ottawa BlackJacks of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday that Canadian guard Tyrrel Tate has re-signed with the Club for the 2023 CEBL season.
A six-foot-five guard from Calgary, Alberta, Tate averaged 8.2 points in six games with the BlackJacks last summer. On July 27, the sharpshooter recorded his best statistical performance of the season in front of his family members in Edmonton. As part of a 19-point effort, Tate hit three triples, including the Elam Ending winning three-pointer, sealing a 100-91 win over the Stingers.
Tate will be competing in his fourth CEBL season, having played with the Bandits during the inaugural year of the league in 2019 and with the Nighthawks during the 2020 CEBL Summer Series in St. Catharines.
Following his first season in Ottawa last summer, Tate has brought his talents to Iraq, suiting up for Air Defence Sporting Club, before moving to Kuwait to compete in the Kuwait Basketball Association.
The Fayetteville State University alumni spent the 2017-18 campaign with the Cleveland Charge of the NBA G League. He scored a season-high 11 points, hitting two triples coming off the bench on February 10 against the Windy City Bulls.
In 2014, the Idaho Stampede (the Utah Jazz NBA G League affiliate) selected Tate as a seventh-round pick in the NBA Development League Draft. He played 25 games with the team in his first professional season and made five starts.
Collegiately, Tate played four years for the Fayetteville State Broncos, averaging 15.3 points and 5.2 rebounds in 81 games. As a senior, he was selected as part of the All-CIAA Team and opened the season with 19-point contests on November 8 against Concord and the day after against Notre Dame College. He scored 30 or more points for the third time in his career with a 30-point game on November 21 against UNC Pembroke.
Ottawa BlackJacks group experiences are now available and include Executive Lounges, offering fans and businesses a semi-private group space with a central view of the court, a dedicated host and opportunities to participate in unique in-game activations.
